Third Doctor's Appointment

Today was the third doctor's appointment. Another non-eventful (which isn't a bad thing) visit to the doctor. Just blood pressure, weight, and heartrate. Baby's heartrate was 147 (I thought it said 157) today. Doctor said it sounded good. I asked the doctor if he minded me recording the baby's heartbeat today because Chad hadn't heard it since the first appointment. I thought Chad would like to hear it, it's kind of exciting to hear it and know that there is something inside of me and that I'm not just crazy! :) The doctor was very kind and even told me when to start and stop my recording. I was able to send the heartbeat to Chad within minutes of recording it on my phone (I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!)....and then I also sent it to many of our family members, who were also able to hear the heartbeat for the first time. :)
The next appointment is our 20 week (plus a few weeks for us) ultrasound on September 13. We are very excited to see the baby again, however, we have decided NOT to find out the sex of the baby. We'll see if we stick to that when we get into the appointment. :)

Telling Great Grandma & Grandma Emma AND Family Parties

Today is Father's Day. Chad and I sent my Grandpa Emma a father's day card this year that said "Great Grandpa" on it. However, we still just signed it Love, Chad & Liz. We were hoping that my grandparents would call us and question us regarding the mistaken title on the card, at which time we would be able to clarify and share the news of the first great grandchild on my dad's side of the family. However, for fear of "reading too much into the card" my grandparents never called. Finally, I sent a text message asking them if they had gotten it yet. Of course they had, so Chad and I got on speakerphone and called them to tell them that the card was not a mistake, and in fact they would be great-grandparents in January. Grandma shared that she caught on right away, because she knows that I wouldn't make a mistake like that without a reason. :)
My cousin Tony graduated from DePaul University this year. My Uncle Bob and Aunt Cheryl had the whole Emma family over for a graduation party for him. Grandma and Grandpa Emma came into town for it as well. They had kept our secret all week, however, Grandma thought today would be a great time to tell everyone the news, since all of the Aunts and Uncles were actually at the party. I was a little apprehensive about telling everyone, since I did not want to take away from Tony's accomplishments, but I told Grandma that if she felt it was an appropriate time to tell everyone, that she could do it. Grandma said grace before the meal and said that we had many things to be thankful for and as our family has grown accustomed to, we don't celebrate just one big event at a time...today we have Tony's graduation from college, Mira's baseball team winning a tournament, and Grandpa and I will be Great-Grandparents in January.... :)
After breaking the news to my family, Chad called his family members who hadn't heard the news yet on the phone and told them because we haven't had a chance to make it to Ohio yet to see everyone.

Aunt Rhonda and Uncle Glen had their annual 4th of July pool party for Mom's side of the family and friends. All of Grandpa Schewe's war friends and their families have been gathering for years for the 4th party. My aunt and uncle both turned 60 this year, so we also planned a surprise birthday party for them during the party. My cousin Sarah and I were watching Veda, Matt & Erika's little girl play, when she turned to me and asked if Chad and I were planning on kids anytime soon...to which I said "NO!" In an effort to keep my secret covered up until the gift time came. After a slideshow of pictures through the years, there were gifts and cake. We gave Uncle Glen a "Ride the Pony" t-shirt because of an old family tradition (not sure what else to call it) from when the girls (my sister and I) were little and we gave them cards that were signed Chad, Liz and "Baby" Taylor. The secret was busted... but we were very excited to finally be able to tell everyone!

Second Doctor's Appointment

Today is our two year anniversary. Today was also the second doctor appointment. Nothing terribly exciting happens at the monthly visits, unless there's an ultrasound. So today, they just took blood pressure, weight, and listed to the baby's heartbeat. The baby's heartrate was 154 this time. Doctor said everything looks and sounds good. :)

First Doctor's Appointment

Today was our first doctor's appointment. Chad took a half day off of work and met me at the doctor's office in Glen Ellyn. We found out the baby was approximately 9 weeks today (give or take a few days). We got to hear the baby's heartbeat, which was 185. The baby is due January 22, 2012. :)

Memorial Day Weekend

Chad's parents came to town with his younger sister, Autumn, for the weekend. We decided this would be the perfect time to plan a get together with both of our families to have a BBQ and share the news. It was a difficult task not to tell everyone as soon as we saw each other. But we held out until Sunday.
We had a BBQ full of way too much delicious food. For dessert, Chad and I had purchased cupcakes...
Before we brought out the cupcakes, we brought down gift boxes that we had hidden from everyone in our room. By this time, my stomach was in knots! I was so nervous, even though I knew everyone would be super excited about it, just like we were. In the boxes, were gifts for everyone....

Uncle Mikey, got a onesie that has the Chicago Bulls on it.
Grandma & Grandpa Emma, got a book, sleep outfit, pacifier, toy, and a blanket to keep at their house.
Nana & PaPaw Taylor, got a book, sleep outfit, pacifier, toy, and a blanket to keep at their house.

Needless to say, there were lots of tears when the news was broken, but everyone was very excited. Kim, was probably as relieved as we were that we could finally talk to a few people about it.
We swore both families to secrecy until at least our first doctor's appointment in June. :)

I woke up with this strange feeling. I wasn't sure quite what it was, but something made me think I needed to take a pregnancy test. Well.....
Chad couldn't believe it at first, so I bought another test, that was also a different brand. Low and behold, they were both quite positive. :)
While at work, I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Chad. A very nice surprise, on what I thought had already been an exciting day. On the card, it read "I can't wait...Love, Chad." I had to lie to the secretary and my co-workers because we weren't obviously spreading the news that quickly yet, so I just told everyone that I was having a rough week and he was just being a sweet husband (which was true, but for other reasons!)
Chad and I decided that we needed to get the assistance of my sister, Kim, for our "cover-up" until we decided it was time to tell everyone. I called her while I was at work and she was babysitting. I started the conversation by saying "can you keep a big secret for me, because if not, we can end this conversation right now." Kim immediately blurts out, "YOU'RE NOT PREGNANT, ARE YOU?!" I, of course, replied with "well, yes, actually I am, but I need you to keep it a secret, you are the ONLY one who knows and will know for at least two more weeks." She cried, I cried...it was crazy! Then panic set in, as I began to worry about whether or not my sister would be able to keep such a BIG secret for me for so long.
To my surprise, she kept our secret for two weeks from everyone! This was the weekend in which we decided to tell both sets of parents and most of our siblings (those that could be with us that day). Chad and I had hoped to be rather creative with our plan to tell our families. We spent the two weeks thinking of unique ways to tell them, finally, we had a plan!
